Exactly two years ago, I decided to launch Stammtisch in Zagreb, a gathering for returnees and newcomers in Zagreb. The idea was simple: to create a space where newcomers and returnees could come together, converse, share experiences, and build new friendships. Additionally, I wanted to provide support and information to newcomers because I understand how crucial it is to have someone who can offer advice and assistance in the process of adapting to a new environment.
The meetings take place once a month, usually on the last Saturday of the month. The locations vary, but we always strive to choose comfortable and relaxed venues where everyone feels welcome. At the gatherings, people can converse in different languages, exchange stories, ask questions, or simply get to know new people.
One of the greatest advantages of this project is the diversity of participants. Visitors to these gatherings come from different parts of the world, with various cultures and experiences. This allows us to create an open and inclusive environment and learn from each other.
Stammtisch – Zagreb has become a place where many expatriates have found support, inspiration, and the opportunity to expand their social circles. The goal of Stammtisch in Zagreb is specifically to emphasize support for connecting Croatia with Germany, Austria (briefly the German-speaking region), strengthening ties between the Croatian community and German immigrants. Additionally, we aim to provide special support to our returnees, easing their reintegration process and connecting them with others who share similar experiences.
Through these gatherings, we encourage the exchange of languages, cultures, and traditions among Croatian, German, and Austrian participants, further contributing to the strengthening of international relationships and understanding. We aspire to be a bridge between different communities, offering support, information, and opportunities for shared learning and growth.

As the founder of Stammtisch in Zagreb, I turned my experience of returning to Croatia into an initiative to create the Stammtisch community. As a returnee, I personally felt the need for support and camaraderie with others going through the same life phase – relocating to Croatia.
